著者の少年時代をモデルにした小説。金沢の犀川のほとりに住んだ、７歳から１３歳までの様子が描かれています。実父母がいるにも関わらず、養家にだされた主人公は、しばしば、実家に行っていました。一日に２回もいくこともありました。しかし、実父が亡くなると、実母は、追い出されてしまい、２度と会えなくなってしまいます。そんな主人公の救いは、、養家の姉でした。血のつながりがなくても、実に仲が良い二人でした。しかし、その姉もまた、望まぬ所へ、嫁に行ってしまいます。 A story based on the author's childhood.
