About this book
The author was commissioned in 1572 by the Viceroy of Peru to write this History of the Incas for King Philip II, as justification for the violent conquest of the Inca Empire. Sarmiento collected first-hand accounts and submitted this work along with four cloths with figures of the Incas and their wives, on medallions, their Ayllus (family clan), a genealogical tree, depicted historical events, and a map of the Inca Empire. His work has been deemed "the most authentic and reliable that has yet appeared." (Summary by mpinedag)
